C. STEPHEN KING, CPA

Steve started his career working with Ernst & Young in Southern California in 1991.  While working at Ernst & Young Steve gained experience working with many different kinds of companies and industries.  Steve gained exposure to real estate partnership issues while working with large real estate partnerships.  While at Ernst & Young, Steve also worked with the “Entrepreneurial Services Group”, which focused on small to medium-sized businesses.     Working with the entrepreneurial group he gained valuable experience working with small business owners and earned an appreciation for what small business owners need and want from a financial service provider, specifically a tax advisor.

In 1997 Steve and his family returned to Utah to work with Ernst & Young and later with KPMG.  While here in Utah, Steve has had the opportunity to work with many successful large and small companies in different industries including real estate, construction, manufacturing, multi-level marketing, franchising, restaurants, and various service industries.

Steve graduated from BYU in 1991 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and a Master’s Degree in Taxation.  Steve is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Utah and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a member of the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Steve enjoys hiking running, playing softball, basketball, and golf.  He also loves to spend time working in his yard.

Steve lives in Alpine with his wife Tricia, and five children, Emily, Stephanie, Jessica, Spencer, and Meagan.

MATTHEW O. MCCLEARY, CPA

Over the past twenty-two years, Matt has been the tax advisor to home builders, manufacturers, hotels, hospitals, doctors, engineers, self-employed individuals, not-for-profit entities, expatriate, and non-resident aliens. 


Matt has successfully represented many clients before the Internal Revenue Service and various state taxing authorities during the course of income tax audits. Matt has also been successful in working with the Internal Revenue Service having both income and payroll tax penalties be either reduced or abated completely.

Having served a wide variety of clients over his career, Matt has the knowledge to, not only provide tax advice, but business advice as well. Matt has assisted many clients in acquiring or disposing of their businesses, merging with other businesses or making major purchases.

Matt understands the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of business entities (Corporation, C Corporation, Partnership, LLC). He has assisted several clients in choosing the type of entity that would not only be the most efficient from a tax perspective (including self-employment taxes) but would also best meet his clients’ business and personal needs.

Matt graduated from Brigham Young University with an undergraduate degree in Accounting in 1988. He has worked in public accounting ever since. He obtained his CPA license in 1994. He has worked in California, Nevada, and Utah.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Matt currently resides in Riverton with his wife Raelynn, and his six children, Madilyn, Megan, Jordan, Jacob, Maci and Morganne.

History

After several years of working with “Big 5” accounting firms, Steve King and Matt McCleary discussed the possibility of leaving the big firms to create their own company that would serve a diverse client base whom they could work with on a more personal level.

King & McCleary, LLC was formed in December 2002 and continues to provide the quality, creativity, and technical abilities of the big firms with the more personal approach of a local firm. In addition, low overhead costs allow K&M to provide exceptional services for a fee that is competitive with other local CPAs.

Certificates

Our firm participates in the Peer Review program prescribed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Oklahoma Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Our firm was last reviewed in June 2013. The resulting report stated that all of our accounting practices and procedures complied with or exceeded the standards of the industry.
